BLUES
Band finished and you’re not done dancing? You’re in luck… stick around for our blues after party! Continue dancing to DJ’d music until the bar kicks us out. $2 suggested donation for those coming just in time for the blues.

CLASSES
7pm: Swing Outs w/ Jean & Carolina

It’s everyone’s favorite lindy hop staple, the swing out. Whether you think you know enough already, or you’ve seen people swinging out on the dance floor and want to give it a shot, this is the class for you. We will work on the fundamentals of the swing out, break it down and piece it back together, and finish off with some fun variations. For this class, you should be very comfortable with basic 8-count footwork and connection, but don’t worry about bringing a partner. We will rotate throughout the class to give everyone a lot of practice.

“Continuing” classes are for those dancers who have cemented the basics of the dance being featured that specific month. This includes knowing (and being able to execute cleanly and consistently) basic footwork and lead/follow skills for that dance. Some continuing classes may require no advance knowledge of a dance. This will be noted in the the class description.
*******************

8 pm: Charleston/Jitterbug w/ Jean & Karolina

This month we will be doing beginner partnered Charleston, which is perfect for faster songs and a great way to start dancing. Focusing mostly on side-by-side 30s style, we will also add in some jitterbug steps and turns to give your dancing a little more variety and swing. No partner necessary! You’ll get to dance with everyone.

“Core” lessons stress the fundamentals of swing dancing for beginning dancers. Lessons rotate monthly to focus on a different kind of swing dance (6 Count Lindy, 8 Count Lindy, Charleston, Balboa, etc.). Because good fundamentals are hard to develop in one month, we recommend repeating Core lessons (on the same topic) to help develop the solid foundation you’ll need in continuing classes. Core lessons are also great for intermediate and advanced dancers who want to “get back to basics” or learn a different dancing role (lead vs. follow).

Core lessons are also great for intermediate and advanced dancers who want to “get back to basics” or learn a different dancing role (lead vs. follow).

MUSIC
The Gravy-House Storytellers are proud to present mouth-watering musical marmalade from the 1920's through the 1940's. The Storytellers perform historically authentic arrangements of Pre-WWII-era blues shoutin', hokum, and swing tunes. Their sound is a 'snapshot' of that moment in time when blues and swing first collided. Their repertoire favors 'mid-tempo blues' and is appropriate for dancing, drinking, and listening alike.

BLUES
Band finished and you're not done dancing? You're in luck... stick around for our blues after party! Continue dancing to DJ'd music until the bar kicks us out. $2 suggested donation for those coming just in time for the blues.

FOOD: Feeling peckish? The bar has a small selection of vegan goodies to help keep your stamina up! Ask a bartender for more details.

CLASSES
7pm: No Intermediate Classes this summer -- join us at 8:30 for practice open to all levels!
*******************

8 pm: Beginning 8-Count w/ Karolina & Jessica

Get ready for the Roarin' 20s! During this 30 minute lesson you will learn the basics of the 8-count lindy hop, the high energy dance that originated in Harlem in 1920s. You'll be able to get out on the dance floor and have fun dancing already after the first lesson! This is a drop-in class, so every week throughout June we will be covering the same set of basic steps, throwing each week a new variation on top. No partner is required to join. After the lesson we have an Open Practice at 8:30 with a DJ when our teachers will be available for dances and questions.

"Core" lessons stress the fundamentals of swing dancing for beginning dancers. Lessons rotate monthly to focus on a different kind of swing dance (6 Count Lindy, 8 Count Lindy, Charleston, Balboa, etc.). Because good fundamentals are hard to develop in one month, we recommend repeating Core lessons (on the same topic) to help develop the solid foundation you'll need in continuing classes. Core lessons are also great for intermediate and advanced dancers who want to "get back to basics" or learn a different dancing role (lead vs. follow).

GIFT CERTIFICATES
Do you want to buy a gift certificate for our classes as a gift, or to pre-pay for a block of classes for yourself? You can purchase gift certificates at the door at our weekly dance! They are $40 for a block of 4, and a great way to dive into the fun world of dance.

Because good fundamentals are hard to develop in one month, we recommend repeating Core lessons (on the same topic) to help develop the solid foundation you’ll need in continuing classes. Core lessons are also great for intermediate and advanced dancers who want to “get back to basics” or learn a different dancing role (lead vs. follow).
