Lenora Helm Hammonds and the Jason DeCristofaro Duo

The Jason DeCristofaro Duo accompanies Lenora Helm Hammonds, one of the most sought after Jazz vocalists in the United States. Here are just some of her many accomplishments:
– Assistant Professor in the Department of Music and Jazz Studies Program for the College of Arts and Sciences at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC since 2005.
– Recently named to the Jazz Vocal Advisory Board for Juilliard Jazz
– Former U.S. Jazz Ambassador to Southeastern Africa
– Inaugural recipient of the 2018 International Javett Music Award
– Past president of International Women in Jazz, an advocacy and presenting organization supporting women in music.
– She was the first African-American woman vocalist to graduate from Berklee College of Music with a B.M. in Film Music Scoring/Voice.
– Has added lyrics (with the composers’ approval) to compositions by Andrew Hill, Wayne Shorter, and Branford Marsalis.

Lenora (vocals), Jason (vibes) and Craig Sandberg (bass) will perform Lenora’s original compositions, as well as music by Gigi Gryce, Mal Waldron, Charles Mingus, and Quincy Jones,

The concert is 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM at The BLOCK off Biltmore in downtown Asheville. Admission is $10.
